Opened in 2016 so Bishop climbers had somewhere to train when the wind kept them off the rock. These are the people who set, coach, and guide.

Our story

From the training board to the crag

We opened Talus in 2016 so Bishop climbers would have somewhere to train when the wind kept them off the rock. It started as a boulder room and a hangboard in an old tire warehouse. The rope walls went in three years later. Now it is bouldering, top-rope, and lead under one roof, with a small guiding service run out of the back office. From October to April most of the climbing in town happens on the boulders in the Buttermilks and the Tablelands, and the gym is where people get strong for it.

Inez Calloway

Head Guide & Owner

AMGA Single Pitch Instructor with fifteen Sierra seasons. Guided in Joshua Tree for six years before moving north and opening the gym in 2016.

Theo Bramwell

Head Setter

Resets the boulder room every other Wednesday. Set for comp gyms in Sacramento before he moved here for the bouldering.

Junie Ford

Intro Coach & Front Desk

Teaches the Tuesday and Thursday Intro classes and does most of the shoe fittings. Has climbed since she was nine.

Paco Ybarra

Youth Club Coach

A middle school science teacher for ten years. Runs the youth club twice a week and coaches footwork first, strength later.

Your first route is two hours away

The Intro to Climbing Class runs Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30pm. Six students, one coach, shoes and harness included, and you leave belay-certified.
